Campaign picks up speed in Japan

Programme launched in 2008, with over 20,000 hairdressers already on board !
Barely a year after the programme was launched in Japan, Hairdressers Against AIDS has already seen a huge number of hairdressing professionals take up the challenge in a country where the disease infects an average of over four people every day and where the population as a whole is still insufficiently aware of the risks involved.

On 1st December 2008, Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, held a conference with 50 journalists to underscore the importance of the project in Japan. Koïchiro Matsuura also praised the 20,000 hairdressers already involved in the Hairdressers Against AIDS campaign, helping fight the spread of the disease through training sessions held at L’Oréal academies in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, as well as in hairdressing salons.
